New City, NY
Challenge
This medium size home in New City NY had a partial basement and a crawlspace. The home was built in what we believe is around 1960. THe foundation was built with cement blocks on a monolithic slab, (the foundation footings and basement floor are 1 piece.) The drainage system has been failing for many years and the basement was almost unusable. Most of the basement would get water everytime it rained, conventional finishing was out of the question. The basement portion of the home is 1,278 square feet. 5 small non working windows. The electric panel was used up with no room for anything to be added.
Solution
The home owner did a lot of research on products to use in his basement, he decided on Total Basement Finishing as the source of those products. The first thing we had to do is get the basement waterproofed to be dry, and dry all the time. We called in a waterproofing company that is part of the same network that can do the job, do it with a lifetime warranty and do it to our standards. After the waterproofing was done we cut in an Egress window and used the Rockwell Egress Well and a window to meet the stringent national building codes.
After the the Safety issue was complete we installed an electric sub-panel to supply the electric needs of the basement. Then the Everlast Finished Walls, that are warranteed for 50 years. Installed 4 new Everlast Window Inserts. We next installed the Total Basement Finishing Linen Ceiling system with a 30 year warranty a bright white classy look. Within the ceiling we installed many LED Razor lights that are rated for 50,000 hours of use. We added all the required electric outlets and smoke detectors. We also installed the flooring using two types of flooring, The Thermal Dry Elite Plank Flooring for most of the basement and Thermal Dry Tiles for the bathroom. We added new Electric Baseboard heat to the entire space. The one storage area with access to the crawlspace, we used Foamax insulation to brighten and add comfort to the basement. To keep the basement comfortable we installed the SaniDry Sedona, it is a basement miracle machine warranteed for 5 years. The Basement stairs were in good shape, although the customer decided on new prefinished oak treads to top off the basement.
When we were all done the new basement added about 1,050 square feet to the home with a new full bathroom, a sittiing room with an emergency egress, a large family media room a workout section an unfinished laundry room and large storage room with the access to the crawlspace.
